10.02.2005

On 10th February the "Go & See" - "Close up" Discussion Club will present three short pop-art movies by Yavor Gardev (idea, camera, production) and Kalin Nikolov (music, montage).
... and hardly related to them discussion topics:

The digital double. Techniques to fight death and oblivion through media visualization of the body. The virtual body - a product of the mediated life time. The possibility for parallel historical time and the idea of living archives. Technologies of the lasting memories. Democratization of the archive memory. The possibility for montage corrections of the personal past according to the criteria of the present. Industries and economies of the memory. The pretension for eternity of the carrier. Forms and transformations of time after its digital duplication. Time and perception in the digital era. Progressive accumulation of the parallel personal times. The metaphysical temptation to maintain one's life time in a permanent horizon. The Babylonian bait of technologies and their respective industries. Total emancipation of the media. Self-thematizing media.

"Shall anyone set a foot on the new strand in his pure algorithmic self
Where the death has been already dispowered having faced his digital double
And where freely and fearlessly beasts and humans in flourishing flocks
Shall live spotlessly calm and contentedly…"

Kiril Merdjansky

"... And I wish when I die all the traces to be vanished behind"

Francois Alphonse Donatien Marquis de Sade

On 03rd February "Go & See" - "Close up" Discussion Club will present the entertaining musical radio program "Evil Night", traditionally inhabiting the frequency of Radio Net (106,9 MHz) from 8 till 10 every Saturday.

A presentation by the thought-illusionist Zhelev, Jofroa Kachamakor de la Braga, and Koshchei the Extreme to reveal the creative-liberal happening, delicately garnished with the most brutal death and grained metal.
The presentation will include a short evil literary reading of the new poetic form "sclonnet" as well as an episode of the legendary soap radio opera "Cravenness and ugliness".
How to pencil the extreme music' eyebrows and whether it could find soil here will get clear in the course of the discussion.
Bring your own ear stoppers! The organizers will provide an ambulance.

[january]

27.01.2005

On 27th January in the "Go & See" - "Close up" Discussion Club, the Association for Religious and Public Support to People Deprived of Their Freedom will present "Notes from the Attempts to Humanize the Dead Home. Modern (Bulgarian) Prison".
The Act for Execution of Sanctions claims that:: execution of sanctions aims at repairing and reeducating the convicted to abide by the laws and good morals, to have a warning effect on them, to deprive them of the opportunity to commit other crimes and to have an educating and warning effect on the other members of society.
The goal is to prepare for future integration, socialization and adaptation for stratifying life in the society.
Is it a paradox to set such a goal and suggest such ways to achieve it: isolation from the society, total possession of the time and body of the imprisoned and monotony. Turning a person from autonomous to dependent to the system.
How does such a person go to back to "freedom" if the preparation for this happens in the "lack of freedom"?
On the other hand there is the opinion of the "general public" that prison is an "academy" for criminals.
The comments of the experts that "There is no more expensive way for the society to make the criminal bigger criminal but to put him in prison, but unfortunately there is no better choice for now" (Prof. Dr. Ò. Minev) sound as a bad joke. Though it is realistic enough if we follow the economic indicators.
Could a paradox so well-formulated as a socially desirable goal set by the law and the environment that applies and executes the conviction "deprivation from freedom" be a really functioning recovery system for victims, criminals and experts?

On 20th January "Go & See" - "Close up" discussion club will present the video films "Fire Steps" by Anton Terziev and Katya Damianova. The video films present issues related to the future described as anti-utopist nightmarish horror, paranoiac fear from ourselves and shame from our own thoughts. In short, the authors suggest a discussion topic and describe their films in the following manner: [READ&SEE MORE]

On January 13th in "Go & See" - "Close up" Discussion Club, The "Promena" Association will present the documentary "Grass" - director Ron Man - historian and researcher of subcultures, over-voice - Woody Harrelson ("Natural Born Killers", "The people vs. Lary Flint"). If you are bothered by the social problem of drugs, this movie will show you the American example of governmental policy on that issue, an example that should be avoided by every aware society.
Directed with Canadian pragmatism and well-intended humor, the documentary "Grass" tells about the war against the marijuana at the propaganda front by demonstrating the absurd grotesque of the "educational" movies produced by the American government in which cowboys smoke joints and kill their friends before surrendering to animal passions.
The movie is funny also for non-stoned viewers, but it is advisable to avoid it if you genuinely believe that the place of the cannabis-lovers is behind bars. We strongly recommend it to panicked parents and school doctors who have graduated before the dawn of democracy.

06.01.2005
On January 6th the "Close up" Discussion Club will present "X-tendo".
The "X-tendo" group has started its activities in 1999 as an informal organization of independent artists. In 2002 continuing with its activities it was registered as an association for urban research through the means of art. The association defines its mission as observation and exploration of the urban environment linking it with the everyday behavior, the routine, the memory, the trace and the sign. In their projects "X-tendo" tells about the city as a unity of space, its inhabitants and their behavior.
Is it possible every day life to be used as material for creation of art? Could the typical places in a city - place for recreation, place for waiting for the pubic transport, meeting place, crossing place - to be told about on the borderline with the grotesque? These and other questions related to the memory of the city, the invention of the city through the memories of its inhabitants, everyday gestures and behavior, will try to address the presentation of Elena Koleva-Ivanova.

The idea of the performance which took place in September 2003 in the ladies' swimming pool at Central Bath is Reminding of and Presenting the movements forgotten by the body that had helped us to achieve the shortest path to pleasure. In the real time the five movements were presented in the following order: Mistrust, Seduction, Aggression, Strategizing and Submission.
In painting there are 5 basic colors as in interpersonal relations there are 5 basic movements that we enrich with nuances if we have more flexibility and fantasy.
The discussion will shed light on stripping down the communication to 5 basic communication means, minimalism and pre-verbal simplicity by exploring the basic emotional conditions as means for purification of senses and shortening the path of energetic influence between people.
